A Haunting Voice...
This is the relatively new, gloriously haunting voice of Elena Tonra frontline member of the band Daughter. Having all ready released two mesmerizing EPs "His Young Heart" and "The Wild Youth" which are avaliable to purchase on itunes, I am amazed that they haven't got more publicity than they have. The below video is the beautifully soulfull piece "Candles" from "His Young Heart", this has to be my personal favourite from this album. The serene tones of Elena's voice are balanced perfectly with the soft tones of the guitar creating an overall powerfull piece of music that you could listen to over and over again.
It would however be wrong to imagine that all of their songs have this whispy quality, while the overall impact of Elena's voice stays haunting, the band is constantly experimenting with different ways of supporting it, from the drums in "Youth" that make the listener seem alive to the fast paced rythem of the guitar in "Run" that carries you through the amazing poetry of her songwriting.
So when you have a free moment, and if you don't, make one, have a listen and explore the beautifully haunting and varied music that is Daughter.
